Adopt a Tree - Arbio Ong

Shihuahuaco / Dipteryx micrantha

I am one of the tallest trees in the Amazon rainforest, I can reach up to 50 m high. I am considerate the key to maintaining the biological diversity of the jungle.
My wood is heavy and highly demanded both in carpentry and parquet floors; that’s why they are cutting me down indiscriminately, endangering my species.

Quinilla colorada / Manilkara bidentata

I grow in the Amazon Forest reaching 40 meters high. A latex similar to gutta percha, a type of glue, is extracted from my bark. My wood is red, dense and hard.

Manchinga / Brosimun alicastrum

I can measure up to 45 meters high and 1.5 meters in diameter, not counting my fins (extensions of the lower part of my trunk) which can be very large. At the beginning of my life my flowers are feminine and then they become masculine. To pollinate my flowers I utilise the wind.

Catahua / Hura crepitans

I am an emerging tree in the forest, that is, I stand out from the canopy because of my large size (up to 50 meters high). From my crust flows a white latex that native communities use for medicinal purposes. Birds and monkeys feed on my fruits.

Each tree is part of the protection and conservation forest of ARBIO PERÚ, in the rivershed of the Las Piedras river, Tambopata, Madre de Dios.
